Beliris is the federal administration in charge of promoting the Brussels-Capital Region’s influence. This body has appointed teams from our Belgian subsidiary VSE to carry out the technical work involved in lighting Notre-Dame de Laeken Church.

In Belgium, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes handles the lighting in Notre-Dame de Laeken Church for Beliris.

After orchestrating restoration work on the façades and roof, Beliris entrusted the lighting for this religious building in the north of Brussels to consultants Light To Light and VK Engineering. Our employees are in charge of the works and are to install nearly 400 latest-generation LED projectors to indirectly illuminate the neo-gothic architecture in white and gold tints. Dali light fixtures will be positioned directly on the building in order to protect local residents from light pollution. Several fixtures will also be placed around the church, directly pointing out certain areas of the building to be highlighted. The lighting thus produced, intense in the evening but more subtle once night falls, is to be monitored using the DALI protocol, able to control several lighting scenarios via a web interface. The building is 99 m high and our electricians will operate at heights of up to 70 m to fix certain spotlights. They will roll out a total of no less than 4 km of cable to supply the whole lighting system. The works began on 1 October 2020 and are scheduled until 31 May 2021.

Notre-Dame de Laeken Church is well-known in Brussels. It contains a crypt in which the deceased monarchs are laid to rest, together with their wives and certain members of the Belgian royal family. Illuminating the monument will allow its restoration, undertaken by Beliris in 2003, to be finally completed.
