THE PROJECT: On behalf of RTE, the project involves constructing four underground connections from the Escargot substation in Marcoussis (Essonne), which will ultimately supply power to the DATA 4 site, among others. DATA 4 is a data center operator active in various European countries, including France. Work includes earthwork, cladding and welding of HDPE pipes, assembling pipe bundles, lowering them into the trench, backfilling, and laying high-voltage cables. Two of the four connections will be left on standby for cable pulling until 2027.
TRUE TEAMWORK: The project is led by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes through the GIE Génie Civil Électrique consortium, which brings together EES Transport & Distribution and the EES Ile-de-France networks division. An average of six employees from the Division are working on the construction site.
REDUCING THE CARBON FOOTPRINT: The fact that two connections are being put on hold makes this project a unique case. “Having a single earthwork and civil engineering operation—regardless of which contractor will pull these cables in 2027—optimizes the project for the client,” emphasizes Karl Lorgeré, infrastructure and networks project manager. “Furthermore, this significantly reduces the construction site’s carbon footprint.”
